September 2104 | WITNESS conducted a training with South African video activists on safely and ethically conducting interviews with survivors of gender-based violence, filming with a mobile phone and digital storytelling.
August 2014 | WITNSS Senior Program Manager traveled to Australia for the AIDS2014. The conference brought 12,000 researchers, academics, pharmacists, policy-makers and patients to discuss the persistent challenges concerning AIDS.
February 2014 | Happy Valentine’s Day! WITNESS celebrated by dancing the night away for the One Billion Rising and V-Day Campaign and announcing the addition of Spanish subtitles on our “Conducting Interviews with Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence” video series.
December 2013 | During this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign, WITNESS released our six-part video series “Filming Interviews with Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.”
October 2013 | In November 2013, WITNESS will launch a six-part video series to accompany our recently released Guide to Interviewing Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. The release of the videos will coincide with this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign.
September 2013 | WITNESS’ Sam Gregory presented our gender-based violence work and training materials at a Futures Without Violence Summit on how we can use improved technology and communication to bring an end to gender-based violence. We’re also gearing up for November’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence and finishing our six-part video series that we will release for the event.
August 2013 | Through a multi-year partnership with Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice, we have been able to train 37 women’s rights activists over the course of three trainings. In addition to the trainings, five groups were selected for intensive long-term video advocacy campaign partnerships. As WITNESS winds down our network partnership work, we wanted to spotlight some of video advocacy campaigns that have been produced as a result of this work.
July 2013 | Politically-motivated sexual violence erupted throughout Zimbabwe as a result of highly contested national elections in 2008. Local organizations estimate that state-sanctioned groups abducted, raped, tortured, and beat over 2,000 women and girls because of their political affiliations.
