May 2012 | WITNESS teamed up with its partners to create “Our Plea,” a video about two young female survivors of sexual violence perpetrated by the Lord’s Resistance Army in the Central African Republic.
September 2010 | WITNESS will embark on a new strategic vision which includes shifting the way that we work. We will no longer partner exclusively with individual human rights groups, but we will begin working with networks of human rights organizations working together on coordinated campaigns. The network campaign partnership model will allow us to seize a new opportunity to tap into existing networks working collectively on an issue (or in a complementary way) nationally, regionally, or internationally.
February 2010 | While discrimination against women in Yemen is prevalent, female members of the “Akhdam” minority remain disproportionately affected. These women suffer social and economic discrimination, which makes it difficult to escape the cycle of poverty, violence, and intolerance in Yemen.
January 2010 | WITNESS conducted a video advocacy training with the Healthy Options Project Skopje (HOPS) in Macedonia. This week-long training was aimed to increase the organization’s video production capabilities with a focus on how to film concealed identity interviews.
Thousands of women have been murdered in Ciudad Juárez– a phenomenon called feminicide. Young women’s mangled bodies, often showing brutal signs of sexual violence, have appeared on the outskirts of Ciudad Juárez by the US-Mexican border. WITNESS partnered with Comisión Mexicana de Defensa y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos to produce Dual Injustice: Feminicide and Torture in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua.
